Naga Thai. The vibrant restaurant specialising in Thai Flavours is the latest addition to Eagle St Pier

The Riverside precinct’s Eagle St Pier, welcomes Naga Thai to the space once occupied by Pony Dining. Fresh Thai eats, along with a vibrant aesthetic, adds an air of fun to this dining precinct and a timely boost to Brisbane’s hospitality scene.

Naga Thai is brought to you courtesy of the team behind Libertine, The Gresham Bar, Popolo Italian Kitchen & Bar, and Walter’s Steak House, so you know you’re in for a treat. The space has been crafted by iconic Brisbane designer Anna Spiro, adding an interior full of bold colours, and retro objects, including a ceiling engulfed by a cloud of lanterns, as well as one entire wall taken over by colourful bookshelves. Of course this just adds to the already stunning floor-to-ceiling views of the Brisbane River and Story Bridge. Moreton Bay Bug Pad Thai anyone?

Naga Thai has just landed and Head Chef Suwisa Phoonsang is living her dream of bringing to life a menu which celebrates her childhood in a northern village in Thailand and her love of the vibrant food culture in Bangkok. 

Our table ordered: 

  • Flower dim sims 

  • Slipper lobster curry with jasmine rice crackers 

  • Moreton Bay Bug Pad Thai 

  • Spicy snapper stir fry with a side of coconut turmeric rice & jasmine rice 

  • DIY green papaya salad (spice level 3)

  • Banana fritters with roast coconut ice cream 

  • #dontbekoi cocktail & lychee rose tea cocktail 

(Note that we had lots of takeaway leftovers ordering all this between two!)

The Pad Thai was a standout and is possibly the best one I’ve ever had with a generous amount of perfectly cooked succulent bug (that more than justifies the $47 price tag) and a flavour profile that isn’t too sweet.

The other dishes, especially the snapper stir fry, also impressed and I love that you can choose a spice level for the papaya salad - a 3/5 was enough to keep my taste buds burning  The dessert was a huge serving, but sadly I didn’t really enjoy the banana fritters wrapped in green coconut rice (just plain fried banana and coconut ice cream for this simpleton please ) and will be ordering coconut pudding or panna cotta next time!

Created by the team behind Libertine, a gorgeous French Vietnamese restaurant at The Barracks, Naga Thai also offers great value banquets its sister restaurant is known for (starting at $39 pp for lunch, min 4 ppl), and plenty of gluten free options, which makes for a group friendly venue.

All in all, I highly recommend adding Naga Thai to your list and I can’t wait to return to try more of the extensive menu!
