Brisbane Arcade’s “Centenary Christmas” Celebrates 100 Years with Festive Dazzle

Brisbane Arcade, Brisbane’s oldest shopping destination, is closing out its 100th year in the most festive style possible with its “A Centenary Christmas” celebration. Running until December 28, 2024, this event transforms the historic arcade into a Christmas wonderland adorned with over 1,000 meters of gold LED lights, lush garlands, and some 12,000 gold baubles. This breathtaking display brings holiday magic to the Queen Street Mall, showcasing the elegance and charm of Brisbane Arcade’s century-long legacy.

In a nod to its beloved heritage, Rosie the Reindeer, the arcade’s Christmas mascot, shines brighter than ever. With her golden coat and bauble-studded adornments, Rosie celebrates this milestone season alongside visitors, making her a must-see addition to Brisbane’s holiday festivities.

This intricate transformation, inspired by European shopping arcades, is the result of 400 hours of preparation. As Brisbane Arcade’s Marketing Manager, Andra Bite, explains, “We hope this year’s Brisbane Arcade ‘A Centenary Christmas’ helps create festive memories for CBD visitors, allowing them to feel part of the Arcade’s history and centenary celebrations.”

Established in 1924 by philanthropists Dr. James Mayne and Mary Emelia Mayne, Brisbane Arcade has become a cherished part of Brisbane’s history. Its unique mission supports medical research through the Mayne Estate trusts, providing a meaningful legacy that resonates well beyond its century of shopping excellence.

Whether you’re visiting for holiday shopping, a festive photo op, or a trip down memory lane, Brisbane Arcade’s centennial celebration is not to be missed. Head to Queen Street Mall this holiday season and experience “A Centenary Christmas” at Brisbane Arcade.
