It’s safe to say that after the challenges of 2020, we’ve all been looking forward to the most wonderful time of the year. Christmas isn’t a season, it’s a feeling. It’s the opportunity for us to spend time with family, and friends, and be grateful for the little things we have. Whilst this year’s Christmas program has been re-imagined, Brisbane will be one of the few places in the world where residents can get out and experience the magic of Christmas with family and friends in a COVID-safe way.

“While it may look a little bit different with COVID-safe precautions, we have a range of events and old favourites that will ensure Christmas will most definitely be in the air in our city”, Acting Mayor Kristina Adams said.

CHRISTMAS IN BRISBANE 2020 PROGRAM:

1. 1 Dec: The Lord Mayor’s Lighting of the Christmas Tree which will see the 22m tall tree illuminate via a special virtual cross to the countdown that families can enjoy from their home, via the Brisbane City Facebook page. Households are encouraged to turn their tree on 1 December and share it through the #MerryBrismas hashtag.

2. 4 - 24 Dec: The Gold Lotto City Hall Light Show will project a Christmas tale onto Brisbane City Hall every 15 minutes from 7:30pm until midnight via an exciting light and animation show.

3. 4 - 24 Dec: The reimagined Christmas on Queen will include lots of live pop-up performances and entertainment throughout Queen Street Mall, with acrobats, choirs, and all your favourite Christmas characters. Starting from 11am - 2pm, and then 5pm - 8pm.

4. 5 Dec: The Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols suitable for the whole family, will be held at the iconic Riverstage and will be a ticketed event to ensure the safety of those attending. From 4pm - 9pm.

5. 18 - 23 Dec: The Christmas Tree Spectacular – Supported by ABC Radio Brisbane is a Christmas production featuring song, dance and circus acts at the South Bank Piazza. Taking place twice nightly 5:30pm - 6:15pm, 7:30pm - 8:15pm.

6. 18 - 23 Dec: Pull up a rug on South Bank Parklands’ River Quay Green and delight in a free cinematic experience at the outdoor Christmas Cinema – presented by eatSouthBank. On from 6pm - 10pm nightly.

7. 18 - 23 Dec: Santa’s Stopover at South Bank Parkland’s Flowstate (4pm - 9:30pm) will have socially-distanced Santa photos for the kids, with Santa’s elves reciting their favourite Christmas tales and helping with arts and crafts at Kids Craft and Storytelling.

8. 18 - 23 Dec: Festive Beats – Presented by eatSouthBank will deliver the Christmas soundtrack at South Bank with original tunes and Christmas covers, with no one artist performing twice across the program. From 4pm - 9:45pm at Little Stanley Street Lawns and 4pm - 6pm at River Quay Green.

9. 4 Dec - 17 Jan The Enchanted Gardens Roma Street Parkland is back in 2020, proving more popular than ever. Be transported to a world of wonderment, as Roma Street Parkland becomes illuminated with more than 40,000 fairy lights at The Enchanted Garden lighting display.

10. 18 - 23 Dec Southbank’s Collective Markets: Christmas Edition will return to their home on Little Stanley Street and Stanley Street Plaza from 10.00am- 10.00pm to showcase a wealth of Christmas gifts and bites by independent retailers, unique to South Bank.
