Disney Legend and Broadway Star set to make QPAC debut in November
Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) has announced Tony® and Olivier Award-winner and musical theatre royalty Lea Salonga will make her Concert Hall debut in November as part of an Australian east coast tour.
Lea Salonga: In Concert will see the ‘Disney Legend’ take to the Concert Hall stage at QPAC on Saturday 9 November for the first time, following her previous sold-out Australian concert tour.
Known for her powerhouse vocals and perfect pitch, Lea is best known for her West End and Broadway roles in Les Misérables and Miss Saigon, as well as being the singing voice for two Disney Princesses in the animated classics Aladdin and Mulan. Globally, Lea has sold a phenomenal 19 million albums.
Lea commences her Australian tour at QPAC on 9 November and will return for the second time in her 40-year career to the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall with Sydney Symphony Orchestra on 15 and 16 November, and will complete her Australian tour in Melbourne at the Palais Theatre on 20 and 21 November.
On returning to Australia, Lea Salonga says “I am so thrilled to be returning to Australia! After performing in Sydney and Melbourne in 2017, we are excited to add Brisbane to this visit and I can’t wait to see all my Australian fans and share a night of some of my favourite music with them.”
Lea will wow audiences with Broadway hits and movie greats, including hit songs from Les Misérables, Miss Saigon, The Greatest Showman, Aladdin and Frozen amongst others. Her vocal flair will be matched by Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of Gerard Salonga.
With leading roles in London’s West End and on Broadway including Les Misérables and Miss Saigon, Lea Salonga is a bonafide star. Lea was most recently seen in the Broadway revival of Once on This Island which won the Tony Award® for ‘Best Revival of a Musical’. Lea and the cast of Once on This Island were also nominated for the 2019 Grammy Award® for ‘Best Musical Theatre Album’. In 2018 she celebrated her 40th Anniversary in the entertainment industry with a special concert in her native Manila in the Philippines.
In 2011 Lea was made a ‘Disney Legend’ by The Walt Disney Company for her outstanding contributions to the Disney legacy as the voice of two Disney Princesses – Aladdin’s ‘Princess Jasmine’ and the title role in Mulan. Lea was the first Filipina to receive the award, with other awardees including Tom Hanks, Elton John, Steve Jobs and Barbara Walters.
Lea has performed for six Philippine Presidents; three American Presidents; Diana, Princess of Wales; and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Currently, Lea serves as a coach on the Philippines hit television show and worldwide format, The Voice and The Voice Kids.
