Brisbane becomes a hub of discovery and wonder from March 12 - 28, as Curiocity Brisbane takes over our river city for a 17-day celebration of science, art and technology.

With a power-packed program of interactive installations and exciting events, Curiocity Brisbane is where new possibilities play and big ideas collide. Discover Brisbane and watch it transform into a world of more than 60 Curiocities that take over four precincts; the City Botanic Gardens, South Bank, South Brisbane’s Cultural Precinct, and the Brisbane CBD. World Science Festival 2021

Part of the Curiocity Brisbane program, World Science Festival Brisbane 2021 will traverse an extraordinary science journey with a new and improved program including more livestreaming options. With more than 120 events, there is something for all curious minds at this year’s festival with one of the highlights “Until the End of Time”. World Science Festival co-founder and renowned physicist Professor Brian Greene will premiere his new cinematic journey live from New York. Through a journey from the big bang to the end of time, Professor Greene will explore how lasting structures formed, how life and mind emerged, and how we grapple with our existence.

Photosynthesis Ballet: Florescentia

Florescentia, from the Latin word meaning ‘blossoming’, is inspired by the phenomenal natural transformations found in the natural biology of plant life. The blended hues of colour create gradients through the dancing form, with partnering colours representing the life cycle of the blossoming form.

Maiwar AR

Maiwar AR is a virtual heritage and animated cultural tour of first contact Brisbane. Be immersed, via your smartphone or Wi-Fi enabled tablet, within the authentic historical past and be transported back through time to Brisbane (Maiwar) one day prior to first settlement.

The Party Button

Come party with The Party Button, an interactive artwork inspired by crosswalk traffic interfaces, made up of a ‘walking man’ and ‘stop man’ traffic lights and a traffic light button. When the button is pressed, the standard crosswalk ‘slow beep/fast beep’ combo is played, transitioning into one of twenty party tracks.

Sub-Zero Curiocity

Enjoy a Sub‑Zero Curiocity at Royal on the Park. Derived from a Vampire’s Kiss cocktail, the curious cocktail is as delicious as it is decadent – served with a touch of gold dust and a smoky flair.

SHOAL

Through integrated robotics and proximity sensors, a delightful school of blue-green chromis fish focus their attention and consider us with curiosity. SHOAL is a mesmerising artwork inspired by pressing issues of climate change and our irreplaceable relationship with the natural world.

Polyethylene Reef

Polyethylene Reef is an interactive sculptural work created from recycled plastic drink bottles intercepted from the school waste stream. Visitors are invited to interact with the reef while contemplating the sheer volume of plastic waste disposed of each day.

Pocket Cosmos

Pocket Cosmos is a giant vertical kaleidoscope – a mirror prism that transforms the surrounding environment into a firmament of light, colour and movement. Inspired by humanity’s predisposition for pattern recognition, the installation draws on the science of optics and light to explore the phenomenon of symmetry.
