A delicious nightmare. The plant-based restaurant that has Brisbane drooling.

Imagine opening, and trading during the corona virus pandemic, lock-down restrictions, and the uncertain future of an entire industry. But that’s exactly what the people behind Nonna’s Nightmare did. Starting around May 2020, initially with delivery and takeaway service, they are now open for dine-in! The all plant-based pizza and burger restaurant is about to become your favourite, guilt free comfort meal.

The chef, born and raised in Italy, has been cooking Italian classics for most of his life, and after 12 years in the industry in Brisbane, decided to make a switch to a plant-based diet, instantly becoming every Italian Nonna’s Nightmare.

The menu focuses on sourcing fresh, local ingredients, and only working with companies that share the same values, with everything from their sourdough pizza crusts and burger buns made fresh in house. The sleek shop on the corner of Boundary and Vulture St West End, serves up familiar Italian feeds, focusing mainly on their mouth-watering light pizzas, (with the menu split between two types of bases); Rosse, or Bianche. That is, Tomato base or an alternative base.

There’s also a couple of pasta options of flavoursome Gnocchi, or the Funghi pappardelle pasta, as well as the tasty sides of crumbed stuffed olives, purple potato crisps, and salads. To complete the Nonna’s nightmare menu, they have an offering of drool inducing burgers made from the same special flour blend as the pizzas, which means they’re light, and fluffy.

Service here is welcoming, and friendly, and they also tried to accommodate a gluten intolerance, however, it’s best to talk to the staff first about your dietary requirements.
